Total Triage – FAQs

What is the new Total Triage system?
From 8th September, all routine appointment requests will be assessed by our Triage Team first. If it is appropriate for you to be seen by someone other than a GP (for example community pharmacist or a member of our practice clinical team) you will be advised of this. If it is most appropriate for you to see a GP, you will be offered an appointment based on your medical need—either the same day, within 5 working days, or within 10  working days.

How do I request a routine GP appointment?
You’ll need to fill out a simple online form through our website. The form will be available 8am -6.30pm Monday to Friday. This form helps our team assess your needs quickly. If you can’t access our website, just call us, and we can send you a link by text or help you fill out the form over the phone. If you don’t have access to a phone you can come in to the practice and get help from our reception team.

What happens if I need an urgent appointment?
For urgent needs, please call the practice directly. Your request will still be assessed by a GP, and we will let you know the next steps.

How quickly can I see a GP?
The GP will assess your request and offer an appointment based on medical urgency:

  • Same Day (if your request is assessed by a GP as medically urgent)
  • Within 5 Working Days (for less urgent issues)
  • Within 10 Working Days (for routine issues)

What if I don’t have online access?
Don’t worry! If you can’t fill out the form online, just give us a call. Our reception team will help you with the form.  If you don’t have access to a phone, you can come into the practice and our reception staff will help you.

How long will I have to wait for my appointment?
When the Triage Team review your request they will assess who you need to see and how soon you need to be seen. If it is more appropriate for you to be seen by someone other than a GP (for example a community pharmacist, or another member of the practice clinical team) you will be advised of this. If it is most appropriate for you to see a GP, you will be offered one of the following GP appointments:

  • Same day (if your request is assessed by a GP as medically urgent)
  • Within 5 working days (for less urgent issues)
  • Within 10 working days (for routine issues)

If you need to be seen by a GP the same day, but we have reached capacity then you will be advised to contact NHS 111 or told to go A&E

What if I can’t complete the online form myself?
Our reception team is here to help! If you need assistance filling out the form, just call or visit us, and we’ll do it for you.

Will I still be able to see my regular GP?
Yes! We will assess your request and, where possible, try to offer you an appointment with your regular doctor. However, if your regular GP is unavailable, you will be offered an appointment with another GP.

Can I still visit the practice without filling out the form online?
Yes, but we encourage using the online form to speed up the process. If you are unable  to fill out the form yourself, our reception team will be happy to assist you.

What if I need to speak to a GP about something important?
You can still call the practice if you need to discuss something important with a GP. The team will assess your request and if it is more appropriate for you to be seen by someone other than a GP (for example a community pharmacist, or another member of the practice clinical team) you will be advised of this. If it is most appropriate for you to see a GP, you will be offered one of the following GP appointments:

  • Same day (if your request is assessed by a GP as medically urgent)
  • Within 5 Working Days (for less urgent issues)
  • Within 10 Working Days (for routine issues)

If you need to be seen by a GP the same day, but we have reached capacity then you will be advised to contact NHS 111 or told to go A&E.
